Woodlea Character Statements

At the Annual General Meeting, held at Streams Christian Church on October 27th, Christi Fidek of the City’s Planning Department presented the draft Woodlea Character Statements.

Once adopted by City Council, Character Statements become an additional planning tool used in conjunction with the Neighbourhood Planning and Design Standards and the Land Use Bylaw to evaluate applications for development.  The Woodlea Character Statements were drafted with the input of Woodlea residents who took part in a neighbourhood walk-about to identify features that give Woodlea its ‘character’.

Woodlea is your neighbourhood.  The Woodlea Character Statements will affect new development in your neighbourhood.  Your input is important.  The City would like you to explain what you do and what you do not like about the proposed Character Statements.

AGM Thursday October 27

Woodlea AGM is coming up Thursday October 27 2016 at Streams Church. 7pm.

We hope to have the Woodlea Character Statement available at this meeting. Watch here for updates! The character statement is a document that will be used by the Municipal Planning Commission in making decisions on future development in Woodlea. It isn’t intended to be a restrictive document, rather an aid to homeowners and developers when considering new builds and extensive renovations. This includes respect for our trees and green areas, and respect for the three distinct ‘character areas’ the City has outlined in the plan.

There will be cake and beverages and of course time for socializing. See you there!

Woodlea Waste Warriors win the war….

thanks to the thirty three dedicated Woodleites who came out Sunday May 29 to clean up the neighbourhood.
We enjoyed coffee and timbits before heading out into the bush and the lanes, scouring the hillside and mucking about in the creek. Our starving Warriors finished up with a weiner roast and a fabulous cake made by one of our neighbours, Paige.
There were even prizes, donated by Peavey Industries, As Nature Wood Have It, Central Alberta Co-op, Albert’s Restaurant, and the City of Red Deer. Thank you all for your support!
Thanks also to our events committee: Bev, Lorelei, Jody, Lori and Dorthey. Yay, Team!

Thanks to Bev, too, for the photos.

Winter Wind-upWhat a great time we all had at the Woodlea Winter Wind-up!!

Sorry some of you couldn’t make it, but we’re glad so many of you did.
We really admire those kids and (one) adult who braved the somewhat bumpy ice rink!

Many thanks to Event Committee members Sheila, Bev, Lori, Lorelei, Dorothy and Jody, and to the Spices and other families who helped out so willingly.

Problems with noise, traffic, roads, streetlights, snow?

For non-emergency neighbourhood problems, here is how you can register a concern. The City responds to concerns reasonably quickly, and is trying hard to make this our one stop line for all kinds of issues.
